Picky Eater or Problem Eater?
A picky eater is very different from a problem eater and knowing the difference between the two is important. "Pediatric Feeding Disorder" or PFD is a diagnosis for many kids that cross the picky eater boundary. Here is a quick summary:
It's beneficial to find out early as it may prevent the development of conditions that negatively impact a child's cognitive, physical, emotional and social development. In addition, feeding is shown to be a complex skill that develops within a feeding relationship. Earlier detection and treatment of PFD can also reduce adverse effecting caregiver and child relationships! How do you know when that boundary is crossed? There is a quick questionnaire that has been shown to accurately identify and differentiate between PFD from picky eating from Feeding Matters.
